In September of 2013, I reviewed the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop. I have now used the keyboard and mouse every day, 10 hours a day for about 5 months and I would like to share my experience with it.

The Keyboard

I have to say, the keyboard is fantastic to type on. I loved it so much, that I started to bring it to work and eventually made my work buy one for me. However, I do have some issues with it.

  • Two times I have experienced that everything gets encapsulated when I type and the only way to stop it is to restart Windows.
  • Sometimes a key is stock for half a second and released with a “clunk” sound as if something broke.

The keyboard has really help reducing the strain in my wrist I was experiencing prior to using this keyboard.

The Mouse

The mouse has also reduced the strain in my wrist, but unfortunately not as much as I had hoped. Although the mouse looks a bit weird, it is actually quite comfortable to use. However, I have some issues with the mouse as well.

  • The buttons are glossy plastic and dirt from the fingers stick to it.
  • The left side of the mouse where the thump rest has a rubber finish and after 5-month of use, it is starting to wear off.

Conclusion

I am very happy width the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop. The ergonomic shape of the keyboard and mouse really makes a difference. Nevertheless, at the price of this keyboard and mouse, I really had expected a higher build quality than what is the case.
