We needed some firewood sheds to store our firewood and here is why. The heating source in our house is an old oil/wood combination boiler. We absolutely have plans to replace it with a more modern alternative at some point. However, a lot of work has to be done to the house before that. We are already hard at work to make those changes, but as we are doing most of the work ourselves it will be some years before we are ready. In the meantime, we needed a place to store a lot of wood. While using wood to heat our house is a lot more work than just using oil. It is significantly cheaper. So we use wood as much as possible.
For the first few years after we bought the house. we use the small barn just beside our house to store the firewood. But when we wanted to renovate the barn to use the 55 m2 (592 ft2) as a workshop we needed something else to store the firewood. We have a small section of our garden under a couple of big trees that were not used for anything. There is easy access from the courtyard to easily offload firewood from the trailer. So, We decided this was the perfect place to build a couple of firewood sheds.
We looked at quite a few different kinds of firewood sheds. It took a while but we found one that we both liked and used for inspiration. I made a rough drawing in SketchUp to get an idea of the proportions and how much lumber I would need. Sadly I do not have any images of me building the sheds.
